This was the third “Lazy Bear” weekend that we have attended in Guerveville, California, a small resort town on the Russian River. In the 1970’s, there was a migration of gay men to Guerneville and it continues to be heavily influenced by gay men. We discovered the Lazy Bear weekend a few years ago when my friend, Kathleen, was still living in the Redwoods there. We don’t participate in all the activities but do enjoy the afternoon pool parties. We love the d.j., Rotten Robbie, who plays many of our favorite disco hits from the 70’s. This is a few minutes of video from 2017.
The first year, in 2015, we just drove over on Sunday. Kathleen was still living there and we just wandered around the streets. We visited a drag bingo party. It wasn’t until 2017 that we started getting a hotel room. We headed over Friday night after Milton got off work and stayed at a Best Western in Santa Rosa as there are no rooms available in Guerveville for the event. People have been going to this even for years and book far in advance and some have “standing” reservations.
